manufacturing facility acquired

One of the UK’s leading workplace interiors companies, the Eastlake Group, has strengthened its Burdew brand by acquiring the assets of Wakefield-based furniture manufacturers, Greenwood and Wood’s manufacturing facility.  The acquisition will allow the Eastlake Group to build on its growing success as it moves towards reaching a turnover projected to be £40m in 2008. Staff numbers currently stand at 180.

Greenwood and Wood have been designing and manufacturing specialist furniture for the UK’s leading financial institutions, professional service firms and blue chip companies for over 30 years from this first class facility in Wakefield. This acquisition will allow Burdew, the bespoke manufacturing arm of the Eastlake Group to establish itself as the UK leader in its field, and to relocate to a 100,000 sq ft facility, expanding both business and its capabilities to deliver to a growing customer base.

Burdew managing director Charlie Gallifant, an Eastlake Group board member, said: “There is a tremendous amount of excitement following this latest acquisition and it demonstrates our determination to move forward and develop as a company.

“This is a unique opportunity to help position the Burdew brand as the leading force behind designing and manufacturing furniture - we are looking forward to the new challenges and business opportunities which lie ahead.”

David Eastlake, CEO of the Eastlake Group, said: “The addition of Greenwood and Wood facility to the Eastlake Group as part of the Burdew brand marks another exciting chapter for the company. Greenwood and Wood had a great reputation for manufacturing high quality, bespoke joinery products, and I believe Burdew will carry this forward, investing in the area, providing new employment opportunities within Burdew as the company grows, and ensuring we remain ahead of the game in the UK market.”
